The S.E.L.F. Philosophy – What Is It?

What Does S.E.L.F. Stand For?

Simply put, S.E.L.F. stands for (S)oul, (E)nergy, (L)ove, and (F)ulfillment.

The SELF Philosophy is how Positive Presence teaches its students to uncover SELF Empowerment, SELF Reliance, SELF Esteem, and SELF Confidence. The S.E.L.F. model is built of four layers that form an individual’s identity. Mastering the four stages of the SELF model requires focused, purposeful attention and practice.

With a mentor-coach working as a guide, Positive Presence mentees work to master the four stages of SELF, with the goal of becoming the best version of themselves and living a purposeful life filled with valuable potential.

In this article, we are going to go into detail about each phase of the SELF model, what it takes to master that step, and what it looks like when you have completed each phase.

Soul

The first step is taking a look at the soul. Mentor-coaches help mentees build a connection and relationship to their soul from the inside out. With this powerful soul connection, mentees begin to see themselves for more than just their physical body, titles, jobs, relationship status, finances, or materialistic items.

Discovering and uncovering your unique soul is the first step in identifying your true purpose, passions, and what you want in life beyond just your physical presence.

Although the SELF model is linear, Soul work is never fully finished. Each person is always in a state of growth and evolution. The goal with soul is to be aware of where you are now and to have an eye on the horizon about where you want to go in the future.

Energy

After you become more in-touch with your soul and your unique purpose and passions in life, you will start to identify how you spend and waste energy. Energy is a fluid and precious resource that we must protect and nurture. Everyone has the energy to accomplish everything they desire in life — money, relationships, peace, happiness, success, recognition, information, etc. Once you identify what desires are most important, you will start to see that there is always enough energy to get where you need to be.

Essentially, this means if you are passionate about something, it takes exertion, not effort. The difference is if a task gives you energy or takes energy from you. If you are working in your zone of genius, it won’t feel like work.

Yes, there are always things you will have to do that take energy and effort, such as homework, taking out the trash, etc. But finding ways to spend even just a bit more time each week on the tasks that give you energy will help you on your path to fulfillment.

Love

The third part of the SELF model is Love. Love is one of the most powerful sources of energy that we have at our disposal. Mentor-coaches teach their mentees to turn that love inward and learn to love themselves. When this happens, that energy becomes a catalyst towards positive action and change. Seeing the world through a lens of Love will help positivity become a natural belief for you and those around you.

Self-love can be easily overlooked. We often take for granted the amazing parts of ourselves and only focus on the negative. Positive Presence Mentor-coaches work with their mentees to shift this perspective so you become aware of when you spend more time thinking of yourself negatively than positively.

Fulfillment

After Soul, Energy, and Love are mastered and understood, we move to Fulfillment. Fulfillment is how you put these skills to use in everyday life. We all have an innate ability to feel fulfilled, but finding this feeling is a personal journey with many challenges. PPG’s mentor-coaches help provide meaningful and customized steps towards achieving fulfillment in everyday life.

Teenagers and young adults have a lot going on, especially since the year 2020 turned life on its head. Finding fulfillment is not something we are taught to focus on at this state in life. Working with a mentor-coach you will be introduced to multiple methods to discover fulfillment in everyday life and feel happy, content, and excited about your future.

Putting it All Together - S.E.L.F. in Action

Our mentor-coaches are trained using this proprietary methodology and they challenge their students to grow, change, and move towards a life of fulfillment. Once Soul, Energy, and Love are mastered, students can feel at peace with who they are and move through life with confidence that radiates outward.

All in all, the SELF model is about uncovering who you truly are and learning to embrace that person with open arms, move through life with intentionality, and to reconcile who you have been and who you are with who you want to be in the future.

Everyone has the ability to master the SELF model, but everyone’s journey to Fulfillment looks different. Some take longer to get through a particular area or easily breeze through one. The goal of self is not to become perfect or even a ‘perfect’ version of yourself. The goal of SELF is to understand who you are, who you want to be, and find peace and positive presence along your journey.

Missy Vandenheuvel

Sales Manager

Bio:

Missy is a revitalized mother of two teenagers who understands the resilience it takes to raise children in the midst of a global pandemic. She is a passionate mentor because she recognizes there isn’t nearly enough support for the overwhelming number of people silently struggling. Her sincere and compassionate personality is what makes her thrive as a coach and a leading member of our company. As our Sales manager she recognized that her role is to listen and learn as much about your child (or yourself) as possible. While listening, I am identifying a mentor coach that I believe your child will not only like based on their personality, but also one who has experienced and overcome similar pain points, and areas of opportunity, optimizing relatability. Ultimately, setting your child up for growth and fulfillment socially, mentally, and physically.

Favorite Mindfulness Techniques:

My Favorite Mindful technique is to Shifting Thought Patterns by focusing on the Grounding Technique. Starts with a big belly breath in. Then, you tap into your 5 senses, to quickly and effortlessly shift your current focus. Choose a sense- any sense, and count down from 5 (order or senses can be altered): 5 things you see, 4 things you smell, 3 things you feel, 2 things you hear, 1 thing you taste.
