The Positive Presence Generation – What Is It?

We’ve discussed the Next Generation, but another piece to that puzzle is the Positive Presence Generation. Essentially, the Positive Presence Generation is the product of the Next Generation. These are the future children of today’s youth (that Positive Presence strives to impact). The Positive Presence Generation is an aspirational term used to explain one of PPG’s loftiest and most important goals: to eradicate the need for mentor-coaching.

Wait what? Eradicate the need for mentor-coaching?! That sounds bad… Counterintuitive, even? Yes and no. The goal is that the work Positive Presence performs today to have such a lasting and rippling effect that the next generation – the future children of the teens and young adults we are coaching NOW – no longer need the direct guidance and mentorship of an outside influence. INSTEAD, their parents become their mentors, teaching them emotional intelligence, executive functioning, and positive psychology techniques that will impact and influence how they come of age.

The Positive Presence Generation would be raised by parents that have (hopefully) learned, practiced, and instilled in themselves their own self-awareness, self-esteem, confidence, positive body image, and all of the skill sets necessary to live a healthy, happy, productive life of peace and love. In our mentor-coaching, we strive to teach our mentees how to not only practice this newfound lifestyle in their own lives but positively impact the lives of those around them by setting a positive example and being a good role model. This practice allows today’s teens and young adults to essentially and inherently pass these core values and beliefs down to their children and their families once they become parents and active participants in our society. The positive psychology and emotional intelligence ingrained in the Next Generation (the students that we teach today) through hard self-work becomes inherent in their being, and thus, seamlessly passed onto their children.

As Positive Presence Founder Michelle Marie King puts it, “When we can make a lasting impact on the teenagers and young adults of today, THEY will give birth to the Positive Presence Generation – a generation born into a world and family of light, love, and pure potentiality. Then, and only then, we will begin a new era on the precipice of a utopia. Today, we can focus all of our energy on teaching the Next Generation self-love, self-care, and self-respect practices and principles. We can share foundational behaviors and beliefs about how we treat one another and the world around us, how we accept differences and disabilities, and how to magnetize positive relationships into our lives. These core values will innately have long-term generational impact.”

The Positive Presence Generation is a swan song of the work Positive Presence performs every day and a goal the company constantly strives to achieve. The Positive Presence Generation would inhabit a world where there is no longer a need to combat embedded negative energy or emotional negligence. The generational wounds and pain parents so often (unintentionally) pass down to their children will begin to heal.

An exciting potential output of the Positive Presence Generation is how profound and deep the impact can extend. For example, suppose we no longer need to focus our time and energy on re-learning self-love and self-acceptance or unlearning self-loathing and negative thought patterns. In that case, we can concentrate on grander things that influence the individual and all of humanity. The impact of the Positive Presence Generation will be abundant and swift, but we must invest the time, energy, and focus now to get there.

Missy Vandenheuvel

Sales Manager

Bio:

Missy is a revitalized mother of two teenagers who understands the resilience it takes to raise children in the midst of a global pandemic. She is a passionate mentor because she recognizes there isn’t nearly enough support for the overwhelming number of people silently struggling. Her sincere and compassionate personality is what makes her thrive as a coach and a leading member of our company. As our Sales manager she recognized that her role is to listen and learn as much about your child (or yourself) as possible. While listening, I am identifying a mentor coach that I believe your child will not only like based on their personality, but also one who has experienced and overcome similar pain points, and areas of opportunity, optimizing relatability. Ultimately, setting your child up for growth and fulfillment socially, mentally, and physically.

Favorite Mindfulness Techniques:

My Favorite Mindful technique is to Shifting Thought Patterns by focusing on the Grounding Technique. Starts with a big belly breath in. Then, you tap into your 5 senses, to quickly and effortlessly shift your current focus. Choose a sense- any sense, and count down from 5 (order or senses can be altered): 5 things you see, 4 things you smell, 3 things you feel, 2 things you hear, 1 thing you taste.

A Fun Fact:

I travel to Florida from Wisconsin 3-4 times a year, and we plan to relocate somewhere with the state in 1.5 years. I’ve been dreaming about this since I first saw the ocean at the age of 14 years old.
